Trust Links is Southend-on-Sea’s independent local charity for wellbeing, offering support to people experiencing mental health problems and those who have learning disabilities. It runs the Growing Together social and therapeutic gardening projects across Southend, offering work experience, peer support, training and support.
Trust Links aims to nurture the wellbeing of its members, improve mental health, offer a quiet place to think and relax, provide access to new skills in horticulture leading to job opportunities and build strong community links.
Growing Together in Westcliff-on-Sea was the first Trust Links site and was established in 2000. Since then it has helped many local people find a way through their mental health issues. Its members have gone on to find employment as gardeners at RHS Hyde Hall in Chelmsford and with the Darby & Joan organisation and others have moved into work in shops, factories and offices as they have become more confident and able to work.
Trust Links members have access to a range of activities as well as working in the garden. The charity offers yoga sessions, art and music classes, woodwork, courses for carers, a job club, a women’s group and a range trips to places of interest. Growing Together builds the confidence and self-esteem of beneficiaries, improves mental health and wellbeing, physical health, social inclusion and social interaction, employment prospects and has broader community benefits.
